The quarterback needy Jacksonville Jaguars have the No.3 overall pick in next week’s NFL Draft. While some mocks have the team drafting a quarterback, the team brought in offensive tackle Jake Matthews in for a visit last Thursday. The Jaguars took Luke Joeckel, who also played at Texas A&M, with the No. 2 pick in 2013.
The St Louis Rams are said to be interested in Matthews as well. Rams coach Jeff Fisher knows the Matthews family especially well, having been Bruce Matthews’ college teammate and having coached him in the NFL.
Of course it may all be a smokescreen or there may be real interest in Matthews, but quarterback seem to be the more pressing need for the Jags. General manager David Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley have been adamant for months that whichever quarterback they draft next week will not play right away.
Chad Henne will be the starter. That is why they signed him to a two-year extension in March making another player other than a QB may be in the cards.
Well then that may mean a closer look at Sammy Watkins of he is available which is a fell possibility. The Jaguars still need a playmaking wide receiver and have to continue to upgrade the offensive line, especially in the middle.
