Packers vs Cowboys: Game Pick - Can Rodgers hand Boys' third loss?

Posted October 09, 2017

It's a non-divisional rivalry with a rich tradition, and recently it's become almost an annual matchup between two proud franchises and NFC contenders.

Green Bay has won six of the past seven meetings with Dallas straight up, covering the spread in five of them. Smith convinced Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones that he would play again and Dr. Dan Cooper, the Cowboys' team physician, did his surgery which gave the organization confidence the nerve would regenerate, giving Smith a chance to play again.

The phrase I used a couple weeks ago was "benefit of the doubt".

"That's where past year it is relevant, we can look back and we know how they're going to play us", Prescott said.

For Dallas, it was the worst possible way to end a surprise season. The makeshift offensive line has allowed 15 sacks and 27 quarterback hits through four games. "I'm not going to use that as an excuse".

Packers fans anxiously await the announcement of the team's inactive list for Sunday's game, hoping that starting tackles David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga will finally return to the lineup. Aaron Rodgers should be able to take advantage of this defense, and I think he's going to put some serious strain on this Dallas offense to keep up. The Cowboys aren't quite the same dominant club without two linemen - Ronald Leary, who signed with the Denver Broncos, and Doug Free, who retired. They know what they're gonna get and we know what we're gonna get. While the injuries continue to pile up offensively, Aaron Rodgers (81.0 overall grade) has compensated with his traditional solid play.

Rodgers had his 16th game with at least four touchdowns and no interceptions since 2008 in a 35-14 win over Chicago in Week 4. "I'm like, 'Man, c'mon.' Guess you've got to just learn from it".

While decisive, Thursday's victory, not unlike the Packers' previous three games, didn't come without a few injury scares.

All eyes will be on Rodgers. He'll be a factor Sunday, but I don't think he'll be up to full speed until probably after the bye week when the Cowboys play at San Francisco. In the two losses so far for the Cowboys, they have allowed 38.5 points per game.

The Cowboys and the Packers entered the 2017 season as two of the favorites to win the NFC. This Sunday, this defensive line will have to face, arguably, the best offensive line in the entire league. Back in 2013, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers injured and the Packers coming off a Thanksgiving drubbing in Detroit, Green Bay rallied for a practically season-saving one-point home win over Atlanta. Houston has come on defensively even without J.J. Watt being the major force.

No matter which running back receives the bulk of the carries, the Packers need them to have a good game.

Jacksonville (2-2) at Pittsburgh (3-1): Is there a more up-and-down bunch than the Jaguars? The Packers with their personnel will make you pay if you don't stay disciplined in your coverage. The Cowboys can play the pass since the Packers have nearly no run game.

Running back Ty Montgomery (broken ribs) and linebacker Ahmad Brooks (back) were limited participants and linebacker Joe Thomas missed the all-important Thursday practice, according to Friday afternoon's injury report filed by the team.
