Bucs mull kicking options as veteran Nick Folk continues to struggle

Posted October 07, 2017

Against Tampa Bay New England committed too many penalties, including four that gave the Bucs first downs. Just to prepare for a Thursday night game is totally a lot different.

"But that's the thing". Again, you've got to play ideal.

The Patriots go on the road in Week 6 against the New York Jets, who are heading into Sunday's Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns with a 2-2 record.

Winston had his moments, particularly an 18-yard touchdown throw to tight end Cameron Brate that he somehow squeezed past the smothering coverage of Patriots safety Patrick Chung.

Nick Folk hindered the young quarterback's effort to come from behind in the fourth quarter for the second straight week. After almost shutting out Chicago in the opener, they have given up 57 points to Minnesota and the New York Giants in the last two games.

Folk's struggles haven't been limited to Week 5, either.

"Been a bad week", Folk said.

After Thursday's game - a 19-14 Patriots victory - Winston waited for Brady to finish up his postgame press conference so that the two could have a chat.

Winston, however, insisted he was to blame. This was certainly a big win for the Patriots, as they wanted to avoid dropping to below.500. He owns a 116.6 QB rating with 10 touchdowns passes and a 9.0 yards-per-attempt average.

"There are a couple there that you're expecting him to make", Koetter said.

When you're 32 in a 32-team league, things have to get better nearly by definition, but the fate of the 2017 Patriots seems clear. Winston threw for 225 yards and his seventh TD of the season in the final 15 minutes. While Brady and his four weapons (James White, Danny Amendola, Brandin Cooks and Chris Hogan) left many plays on the field, sometimes these are the types of games that defines a team.

Who: New England Patriots vs.

"Hopefully we keep finding ways to win".

Sep 22, 2016; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (87) looks on from the field during warm-ups before the game against the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium. "That's what team football is all about".

If the Bears are going to pull off a home upset, as they did two weeks ago against the Steelers, they'll have to find some balance on offense. Don't let a solid Week 4 win against the Browns fool you.

Which brings us to today's quiz of the day.

"That first one right before the half, that 56 yarder - it was pretty windy down there - I actually thought long and hard in the few seconds you have to think about it, throwing for the end zone instead of trying for the kick". The Patriots are already dealing with injuries and if Gronkowski plays the whole year without missing a game that would be huge.
