The Mini is created to be a gateway to Google Assistant, which has gotten a lot better over the past year at interfacing with other smart home devices. Google now has three smart speakers, with all different sizes to match any room of the house. It's known as the Google Home Mini. The doorbell even has facial recognition, so it can broadcast to your speakers the name of the visitor. You can tap the middle to play/pause, tap the side to adjust volume and long press the middle to activate the Google Assistant.
Though there's nothing wrong with the voice-controlled Google Home smart speaker, the Google Assistant-controlled smart home gadget hasn't caught on like Amazon's Alexa-enable speakers. In other words, Google's Home products aren't super compatible with its competitors. One of the components for a smart home, it has very handy features like play music from a smartphone or cloud, and it can interact with users by responding to voice commands.
One of the hottest trends in IoT is smart home speakers. "What you're seeing right now [is] the big players to some extent opening up their systems, and that third-party will simply lead to more adoption", Maya Mikhailov, co-founder and CMO of GPShopper, told Retail Dive about the voice market in general.
That's because giving your home over to a single company means giving away your privacy.
But can Google beat Amazon and Apple in the fast-progressing smart speaker race? Google says the speaker delivers volume 20 times more powerful than what the standard Google Home achieves, but as with the Pixelbook, the software is the secret sauce. Google capped the message with an oh-so-chill aside: "By the way, Disney's live action "Beauty and the Beast" opens today".
Google's answer to the AirPods were also a bit of a surprise, especially with its design and a particular built in feature. Google is investing in premium content to improve Daydream VR's entertainment and virtual tourism chops, with VR apps from IMAX, Discovery's continent-spanning "TRVLR" series, "Austin City Limits Backstage" concerts, a confessional series by The Daily Show's Trevor Noah, and more on the way. Instead, this is a speaker for audiophiles who might otherwise buy the Sonos Play:3 ($299) or the Sonos Play:5 ($499).
You can export the captured clips as motion photos, GIFs, JPEGs, or as movie files. But it's a Google speaker so it's smart too and comes packing a feature Google calls Smart Sound. Customers can pre-order the device online at the Google Store, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Verizon and more.
Google Home Max will be released in December in the US and come to more countries next year.
