Sound Off: Can Oklahoma revenge last season's Ohio State loss?

Posted September 07, 2017

Ohio State leads 2-1, winning last season 45-24 in Norman, Okla. ABC will be showing the contest for your viewing pleasure.

This season, the Buckeyes find themselves ranked number two in the country with a whole season ahead of them.

On defense, the Sooners finished 68th nationally past year in points allowed per game, but the bulk of their struggles came in the early part of the season.

"He's up and throwing in practice, so he should be back soon".

The tournament, originally scheduled for this weekend, was to include the VolleyMob #24-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the FIU Panthers, and the host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. A year ago in Ohio State's win at Oklahoma, Barrett threw four touchdown passes and passed for 152 yards and ran for 74 as the Buckeyes dominated the Sooners.

OSU pounded the ball on the ground for almost 300 yards, chewing up more than six yards per carry, while quarterback J.T. Barrett and wideout Noah Brown exploited OU's woebegone cornerbacks for four touchdown passes.

Dan Murphy: Had to pick at least one upset this week, and this is the best candidate. Tight end Mark Andrews caught seven passes for 134 yards and a touchdown, and the Sooners rushed for 196 yards.

The Sooners' best starting field position of the game? Abdul Adams led the way with 53 yards.

The Sooners' defense allowed 167 total yards and forced a fumble in the route. Ohio State rolled up 443 yards of offense in that game, with 291 of those yards on the ground.

Westbrook led the Hoosiers with 54 catches for 995 yards last season. The star of the game was freshman running back J.K. Dobbins. This week, it's Ohio State's turn.

J.T. Barrett is a proven leader.

"Hey, if you scared, you don't wanna go hard?"

The Buckeyes certainly know what they're up against.

Murray completed 10 of his 12 pass attempts for 149 yards passing including a touchdown.

Will they be rooting against Ohio State? Against Indiana, ends Tyquan Lewis, Jalyn Holmes, Sam Hubbard and Nick Bosa combined for four sacks and 10 tackles and tackle Jashon Cornell had a sack and forced fumble.

Like a year ago when these teams met, the Sooners are highly regarded.

No. 7 Oklahoma returns to the field Saturday night at No. 2 Ohio State. However they have plenty of talented players that are able to fit right in and make an impact immediately. I'll take Iowa on the road as long as the turnovers are minimal. I'll take my chances on the over hitting again on Saturday.

The Buckeyes, who are the No. 2 ranked team in the country, defeated in 49-21 in their season-opener on Thursday. That could mean big trouble for a young and inexperienced secondary.

This is a tough game to call.

This year's Sooners will battle the Buckeyes before more than 100,000 spectators at Ohio Stadium, also known as the Horseshoe. ESPN's College GameDay will also be on site.

"Both can play at an extremely high level". So, choose your bet.

VanHaaren: I underestimated the Hawkeyes' defense in Week 1 and chose Wyoming over Iowa. The Cardinal are a flawless 4-0 ATS in their last four road games.

The Auburn Tigers have historically struggled against ACC opponents, going just 5-8 SU and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games against the conference. The Sooners spent several extra days of post-fall camp practice scheming for the Buckeyes.

The Stanford Cardinal are 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine games against the USC Trojans.

The Over is 4-0 in the Buckeyes last 4 games on fieldturf. Minnesota heads to Oregon State 5-0 when RBs Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks score in the same game.
