Virat Kohli Reveals Who Will Replace Ravindra Jadeja In The Third Test

Posted August 12, 2017

Cheteshwar Pujara 7, Virat Kohli 0; Malinda Pushpakumara (2/12). A beautifully looped ball from Sandakan found the edge of Kohli's bat as he looked to drive and Karunaratne picked an easy catch to have India in a slight position of bother at 296/5. Unluckily for Dhawan, it was hit within Chandimal's range.

Former captain Arjuna Ranatunga, a government minister, has blamed Sri Lanka's losses on SLC chief Thilanga Sumathipala and accused him of links to gambling, a claim Sumathipala denies. India now have two new batters at the crease, exactly what Sri Lanka would have wanted.

For Sri Lanka, that is another problem. Rahul struck his seventh fifty in succession. Sub-continent players have better options and strokes than the sweep against spinners and the Sri Lankans can take a cue out of Karunaratne. It meant that from the time Rahul was dismissed, India lost four wickets for 76 runs in 26.1 overs.

Sri Lanka is a weakened team in the middle of a rebuilding process right now, and India can definitely afford to experiment a little against them - especially considering that the World Cup is not very far away.

Pallekele: India's Shikhar Dhawan smashed his sixth hundred and added 188 in an opening partnership with KL Rahul before Sri Lanka's spinners fought back to halt the touring side's progress in the third and final Test on Saturday. India leads the three match series 2-0 and is eyeing a whitewash.

With India also picking chinaman Kuldeep Yadav in place of the suspended Ravindra Jadeja, this was the first Test match since January 2004 - when West Indies' Dave Mohammed and South Africa's Paul Adams featured in Cape Town - to include two specialist chinaman bowlers. Sri Lanka will be without fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep as well.

India, meanwhile, will also miss the services of numero uno all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as he was suspended over a risky throw at Dimuth Karunaratne in the second Test.

India were 235-3 at tea with skipper Virat Kohli on 11 and Ajinkya Rahane on three.

If it is consistent then it is going to be good because players will be aware about how they need to conduct themselves and it will only help the game. Having won their third toss of the day, they would have taken 329 for 6 at stumps, given the strength of their lower order, and given the amount of turn - albeit slow, for now - this Pallekele pitch is beginning to offer.
