Mamma Mia, an adaption of the 2001 Mamma Mia Broadway musical, premiered in 2008 and earned $609.8 million over the course of nearly a four month run at the box office.

Sometime Thursday or Friday, the Warner Bros. and DC superhero tentpole will eclipse the $609.8 million earned worldwide by Phyllida Lloyd's Mamma Mia!

The chances of "Wonder Woman" matching that are slim indeed - but it looks likely it could surpass the haul of the biggest box office hit from a solo female director, Jennifer Yuh Nelson's 'Kung Fu Panda 2, ' which made $665.7 million. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 still holds about $50 million over Wonder Woman's domestic total. The film collected another $123 million from the global territories, taking the first weekend collections to $223 million worldwide.

Though numerous stories about Wonder Woman box office collections have been written, this particular story will make everyone who loved the movie happy.

Walt Disney Picture presented the third installment of American 3D animated comic film "Cars 3" is running with the good speed in the theaters. However, the recent debut fell short of both "Cars" ($60 million) and "Cars 2" ($66 million).

In addition, this weekend saw Wonder Woman pass the trajectory of 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice domestically, as it had brought in $311.3 million through four weekends versus Wonder Woman's $318 per Box Office Mojo.

Other films have not fared well.

Wonder Woman continues to astonish. However, dismal reviews have led to weak results thus far. "Transformers" has a shot at performing well in the worldwide market, yet "Wonder Woman" could top it this weekend in North America.

"Now we have Wonder Woman - she's fearless, proactive, she believes in herself and she believes she can do everything".

According to recent box-office projections and estimates, Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman is now officially on track to become the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe film in North America. Wonder Woman's lighter and more optimistic tone has gotten a much better reception.
