Reebok celebrates International Yoga Day in association with Ministry of Ayush

The worldwide day for yoga is celebrated annually since its inception in 2015.

The cooperative issued a brief statement on the occasion offering its view of the great Indian contribution to the world.

Over 1,200 yoga enthusiasts in South Africa's Soweto township on Wednesday got their first taste of yoga when they performed various "asanas" at an event on the eve of International Day of Yoga.

Reports said in the United Arab Emirates, more than 15,000 people participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. Yoga, as a mind, body discipline has also been added to the intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

Modi pushed for the annual event to be celebrated worldwide after winning power in 2014, promoting a lifestyle industry that has grown up around the ancient physical and spiritual discipline and is estimated to be worth around $80 billion.

In the run up to International Yoga Day, which is observed today and its third year, events across the country have been taking place with local governments in small towns staging yoga events in innovative fashion.

There were thousands of colourful yoga mats spread out for participants of the third International Day of Yoga being held at the Ramabai Ambedkar Ground in Lucknow, the capital of the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He said that over the next three to five years, each taluka of India will offer more than 11 lakh free yoga classes. "Yoga's popularity outside India is high and has connected the world with India", he said.

"Yoga helps to gain mental stability, peace, balanced living".

There were more than 44 million people who took oath to make Yoga as a part of their life.

In the presence of officials of Guinness World Record, Baba Ramdev conducted record breaking mega yoga performance at the GMDC ground.

Vishnudeo Vishwakarma, a retired former Air India employee, said he began each day with a 5am yoga session.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated a mass Yoga session at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
