American runner Alysia Montano runs in 800m race at USA Track and Field Championships while five months pregnant- something she did in 2014 as well. After running pregnant for the first time, her story inspired many.
The 31-year-old athlete competed in the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at five months pregnant on Friday.
The 2-time American Record holder who is 5-months pregnant ran the 800m race with her bulging baby bump.
I'm like, "I'm still pregnant", she said.
"It's still a conversation that needs to be had. I think it's my responsibility to make sure I'm a voice and advocate for them".
The couple made plans to get pregnant again a year ago following the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but they were prepared to put it off due to the Zika outbreak in Brazil. She hauled herself across the finish line, where she collapsed to her knees and cried. "It was getting back up that defines me".
Montano, who fittingly channeled Wonder Woman in both spirit and uniform during Thursday's race, has already experienced postpartum success, as well. When I found out [Gal Gadot] filmed half the movie five months pregnant, I said, 'I for sure am signing up for United States of America nationals.' I do not define myself as a runner.
Call her super-woman or wonder woman if you like, but this is not the first time she has pulled this incredible fit. "We're just different and that's the point".
