Questions: Spike's Jon Slusser Weighs in On Bellator MMA Coming to NYC

"What we're seeing in droves is that they do".

Bellator might be the second-biggest promotion in MMA, but they are putting on a first-class card Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Instances like this also provide an opportunity to see how perceptions and opinions vary depending on which company's name is on the marquee. Ryan Bader faces light heavyweight champ Phil Davis in the Bellator 180 headliner on Spike.

The welterweight championship fight between Douglas Lima and Lorenz Larkin has been called the best fight of the weekend, and that very well could be the case. But on this night, in that sacred arena, it learned it will take a little more than just fun fights and a good underdog story to make it in New York City.

Emelianenko, maybe be the greatest fighter to never sign with UFC, had won his last five fights, but the days when he ruled in Japan as one of MMA's most dynamic fighters and top heavyweights are well behind him.

Chael, on the other hand, had plenty to talk about in his last interview. The statement read, "The (NYSAC) has completed out-of-competition testing for the Sonnen-Silva bout at (Bellator NYC) and looks forward to Saturday night".

Sonnen doesn't anticipated a tiresome moment in his headlining bout with Silva, and while it's on fans to decide whether they want to purchase Bellator NYC, Sonnen says those who don't will miss out on a special night of fights.

The bout ended with it going to the scorecards and the judges didn't get it wrong. Don't present things as equal. They promised an exciting fight.

Personally, I don't think that is the case.

I felt bad for laughing, but then I thought: This is MMA, and it plays no favorites. Sonnen tried going for a kimura, but stood in half guard.

The Bellator NYC fight card's main event features former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen against former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva. Does he need to step up his sweater game?

Bellator wants to stand on its own as a legitimate rival promotion but signing Sonnen, Mitrone and even broadcaster Mike Goldberg can't help at times but give the promotion a UFC-lite feel. The event will air live on PPV with the main card beginning at 10PM ET.

Of course, Bader and Mitrione would still probably be catching shade from people who believe being the fifth, sixth or 12th-best fighter in the UFC means you're trash and not worth their time.

That's the part I don't get. He then immediately drove Silva back to the canvas and ground and pounded him for the final minute of the round. I didn't know there was much room for much change or harder work or more discipline.

As the event unfolds, we'll add all the results and highlights below. "I'll keep going!" he barked in the cage.
