Treasurer's son beat her husband to death with bat

Police have arrested a Schuylkill County man accused of fatally beating his father with a bat on Father's Day.

Atlantic City Police arrested Michael Marchalk, 37, of Barnesville, Pennsylvania, at 11:50 a.m. Friday at Martin Luther King Boulevard and the Boardwalk, according to a news release from Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

Marchalk's mother, Linda Marchalk, Schuylkill County treasurer, found her husband dead inside their home at 21 Pear St., Barnesville.Suspicion was nearly immediately cast on Michael Marchalk, who allegedly drove from the home on Monday in one of the couple's cars. Gary Marchalk was lying face down in a bedroom surrounded by blood and with an aluminum baseball bat at his feet.

He has been charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, theft, access device fraud and possessing instruments of crime, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Michael Marchalk had last been seen driving his father's 2015 Ford Fusion on the day of the murder.

Michael Marchalk had repeatedly threatened 60-year-old Gary Marchalk in recent months, state police said in a complaint. He will be incarcerated pending extradition as a fugitive. Gary Marchalk, the decedent, was a well-known attorney and the husband of Schuylkill County Treasurer Linda Marchalk.
