Warriors celebrate NBA title with parade through Oakland

One year after their historic comeback, James and the Cavaliers couldn't catch the Golden State Warriors. Dub Nation hooted and cheered for its favorite basketball players, toting signs like "We are the champions", "Gold blooded", "Splash bros are my heroes", "Draymond's got his game on" and "All hail JaVale".

LeBron James said earlier this week that he's never played for a super team.

Mills, 28, says the NBA's new benchmark team deserve a lot of credit for their record-breaking campaign.

"King James", as he is called, left his hometown team once before to join fellow superstars with the Miami Heat. The Golden State Warriors were again up 3-1 in the series, but this time Kevin Durant had other plans.

"It's just a great group of guys, great community, great arena, great fans", Durant said after the Warriors clinched the title. After winning game 4 on Friday by making an NBA Finals record 24 three-points, it brought back visions of past year. Despite James being the first player to average a triple-double for an entire NBA Final series, the Cavaliers were the best contender to beat the stacked Warriors team only to be beaten soundly in five games.

Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry said on Wednesday that he has hasn't warmed to the idea of visiting the White House in the wake of the team's latest championship victory. He got off his bus and hopped and shouted as he gave high fives to the crowd.

But the Warriors, a team that won 73 games a season ago, added the second best player in the world this past offseason in Kevin Durant.

"Sometimes I get exhausted of doing the humble thing, I want to be more like Draymond", coach Steve Kerr said.

A parade to celebrate the Golden State Warriors' second National Basketball Association title in three years is underway in downtown Oakland.

If it has not sunk in for the Golden State Warriors that they are the new NBA Champions, that may be changing soon. This is a moment that we all need to enjoy together, and nothing should detract from what we were able to accomplish together and the different kind of ceremonies and traditions that have happened around championship-winning teams.

Kevin Durant got his big break after he was picked by SeatleSuperSonics as their second overall draft pick in 2007 and was greatly criticized for moving to Golden State Warriors last season. Not if you ask Oakland. That sparked Golden State's push to sign Durant, who chose to leave his original team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thompson dates Khloe, who attended Friday's game in Cleveland along with her mom, a win for the Cavaliers that night, but one that only delayed the inevitable.

Oakland is also losing one of its other beloved teams, the Raiders, to Las Vegas, and the city is still reeling from a police scandal and mourning a deadly warehouse fire.

The parade starts at 10 a.m.at Broadway and 11th Street downtown.
