Bulls trade Butler to Timberwolves

Fantasy Impact: Markkanen gets drafted by the Bulls who acquired the pick in the Jimmy Butler trade earlier in the draft night. Irving, some believe, is actually going to push for a trade, although it's hard to believe some team can come up with the goods (picks & players) to make that deal happen.

The trade means a reunion for Butler and head coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached the Bulls for five seasons before being fired in 2015.

"Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins are two of the premiere young players in this league", Lee said.

Butler averaged career bests in points, rebounds, assists, and steals past year with the Bulls, but had his first break under Thibodeau.

Chicago could have tried to build with Butler.

One day after stories surfaced of the Cavaliers showing interest in Paul George of the Pacers, the ever-vigilant unnamed sources told Marc Stein of ESPN the Cavaliers are trying to acquire Jimmy Butler of the Bulls.

A 7-footer from Finland, Markkanen gives the Bulls a shooter they lacked last season. He will turn 28 in September, right in the middle of his prime for a team in need of veteran leadership.

Now that Butler is gone, the 35-year-old Wade could become a buyout candidate as the Bulls go into rebuilding mode. Butler averaged 23.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists last season and has made the all-defense second team three times.

"I've been working on my shot, shooting National Basketball Association 3s", Markkanen said.

LaVine, a two-time slam dunk champion, was averaging a career-high 18.3 points before his third season got cut off at 47 games.

It's a bold move for the Bulls as they try to climb in the Eastern Conference after getting knocked out of the playoffs by Boston in the first round.

The Wolves drafted Arizona sharpshooter Lauri Markkanen for the Bulls at No. 7 and the Bulls took Creighton forward Justin Patton at No. 16 for the Wolves.

Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times said the same people who tried to recruit him are now telling him to stay away from the Cavaliers. Some expect that the No. 7 overall draft pick would have to be involved.
