Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez returns from disabled list

The Los Angeles Dodgers ended a three-game slide and look to start an extended winning surge when they open a 10-game homestand against the struggling Marlins on Thursday.

Gonzalez has been out since May 3 with right elbow soreness. He grabbed his upper right leg after crossing the plate, was quickly met by Roberts and a trainer, and did not return to the game. His home run total of 18 previous year was his lowest since 2012, which he spent with the Boston Red Sox and Dodgers.

Volquez and Ryu are good friends, even after Volquez hit Ryu with a pitch.

Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5) was hit in his right bicep attempting to lay down a bunt in the fourth inning. "If you ask me if I could've pitched, I definitely could've pitched".

Roberts said the group will meet in-season via conference calls to discuss pace of play and other topics "that the fans the media, we've talked about - ways to enhance and better the game". Volquez was with the Dodgers for part of the season in 2013.

"Number one, I want him to be in the strike zone", Roberts said. The right-hander, on the 10-day disabled list with left hamstring tightness, is scheduled to throw approximately four innings (60 pitches). "He's a good friend of mine since we were with the Dodgers". Infielder Logan Forsythe is expected back from his 10-day disabled list stint as early as this weekend. Nicolino has made one start since being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Dodgers: LHP Alex Wood (4-0, 2.27 ERA) is coming off earning NL player of the week honors after pitching 11 scoreless innings and striking out 21 during that stretch.

Volquez is 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in nine career starts against the Dodgers and has struggled with Turner (6-for-12, one homer). In his last start he recorded his fourth-straight win after six scoreless innings at Colorado.
