Celtics follow euphoria of winning lottery with dud on court

The Philadelphia 76ers will once again be a team to watch this offseason, starting with the NBA Draft.

Yet, obvious by Magic Johnson's smile, the hated rivals were both celebrating.

This week couldn't get much better for the Boston Celtics. Each of the 20 teams has an equal chance, which completely takes away the incentive to throw games.

Either way, the Celtics won big.

- Or, they take Ball, recognising he's a generational talent and a long-term franchise cornerstone, all the time bracing themselves for Lavar.

"This is pretty good", said Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck. "I'm going to speak it into existence".

Less than 24 hours after a Game 7 victory that put them in the Eastern Conference finals, the Celtics earned the right to choose first in next month's draft with the pick they received in the 2013 trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets.

The Phoenix Suns, who had the second-worst record in the National Basketball Association this season, dropped to fourth overall. The Phoenix Suns will get the fourth overall pick.

"He's excited", Thomas said.

Zeroing in on Jackson might be getting ahead of ourselves. "It just feels like this is a pick we will listen to offers, I'm sure, we will have conversations all the way through June but, for me, making a first pick is an exciting prospect right now".

The Celtics were going to be in prime position no matter how the Ping-Pong balls bounced in a hotel ballroom Tuesday. By looking at the available options, the 27-year-old star may decide it's time to join Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics in the East to help them try to defeat Cleveland. Jordan Bell may have a lot of room to improve offensively, he still has the mold of a player any team would want.

Unfortunately, the Knicks slipped from having the seventh-best lottery odds in the 2017 NBA Draft to securing the No. 8 overall selection.

That group will include Ben Simmons, a 6-10 do-it all player who sat out last season with a foot injury.

The draft is considered a strong one, loaded with point guards such as Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball and De'Aaron Fox. If their slot fell outside of the top 3, Los Angeles would not only have lost this year's pick to Philadelphia, but also would have triggered an agreement with Orlando resulting in a loss of their 2019 first-rounder as well.

The most talented player they had on the roster they traded and now it is about building it back up and trying to do it as a collective team not just on the back of one player.

The Celtics had a 25 percent chance to get the top pick, thanks to Brooklyn finishing with the worst record in the league.

Potential Targets: As discussed above, spending wisely should be the team's biggest priority instead of focusing on specific players. Bring him in before the max salaries kick in years later. "We won five in a row and everybody thought we were insane".
