The Uttar Pradesh special task force, in a joint operation with the Delhi Police, nabbed three Islamic State suspects from Jalandhar, Mumbai and Bijnor on Thursday.
According to Indian Coast Guard, there was an information that three terror suspects might be trying to enter Mumbai via the coast. The joint operation was carried out by Special Cell Delhi Police, Intelligence Cell Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra ATS, Punjab Police, Bihar Police and UP ATS.
Details of the arrested persons will be released shortly, police said.
While three have been arrested, the police are questioning six more operatives sources said.
Police received a tip-off that the group was being readied for terror activities. "Legal action will be taken on the basis of evidence", UP Anti-Terror Squad chief Asim Arun was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.
Investigations show that one of them wanted to finance the group and they were continuously communicating with each other about carrying out some major strike in the near future.
The ADG ruled out any link between those arrested today with a suspected terrorist killed in an encounter here recently.
