Unlike the Subaru Viziv-7 concept which the automaker displayed at the LA Auto Show previous year, the Ascent SUV Concept is a whole lot closer to what the production vehicle will look like.
The Subaru Ascent will be manufactured at the company's USA plant in IN and introduced exclusively to the North American market in 2018. It will also feature a turbocharged Boxer engine.
Now, Subaru has ponied up with the Ascent SUV concept. This platform will eventually underpin almost every Subaru model, which is why it was created to be flexible enough to work with both a compact vehicle and the Ascent, which will be Subaru's largest production model. The Ascent concept shown in NY has seating for up to seven.
If you're wondering about the SUV's size, it's a tad shorter, narrower, and lower than the Viziv-7, measuring 198.8 inches long, 78.3 inches wide, and 72.4 inches tall. Reports say that the new seven-seater SUV has a wheelbase of 2,970. Hexagonal daytime LED lights and fog lamps can also be spotted. With reference to the roofline, the high, leveled design of the roofline complements the window line and sloping beltline. Interior storage space appears plentiful, with a covered cubby just under the infotainment screen, a pair of cupholders between the front seats, and a large center console. The model will be built at Subaru of Indiana, Inc.in Lafayette, Indiana and will be sold exclusively in the North American market starting in 2018. Reports predict that the new SUV will crush its rivals when it hits the road next year.
