Eriksen: Talented Tottenham can cope with Kane absence

"I am happy to play anywhere in this team".

And despite Harry Kane being out injured, Merson is backing Tottenham to claim all three points at White Hart Lane on Sunday. We are a hard-working team and that's the big thing for this manager. The immediate success of Alderweireld and Wanyama, plus the ease with which Pochettino and his staff settled at Spurs, suggest conditions at Southampton are similar to Spurs although Pochettino has rejected the suggestion that the clubs share a similar philosophy, describing them as "completely different".

"You can see with James, I looked at the interview when he was young, it was the same spirit - I think James is the ideal son-in-law!"

"He [Pochettino] knows that's who I am".

Tottenham are Sky Bet's 7/10 favourites for the victory with Southampton given a 19/5 chance, while a draw is priced at 11/4. On Sunday he scored his 15th Premier League goal of a remarkable season, playing nearly as a centre-forward for Mauricio Pochettino's team. If Spurs' new recruitment team are looking for more sensible signings, though, the manager's former club would be a good place to start.

Dele Alli says he has learned from his sending-off against Gent but makes no apologies for his competitive edge and has no intention of taking it out of his game.

Neither player managed to get on the scoresheet, with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli firing Spurs past the Saints, but Pochettino was pleased with the contributions they made.

Gabbiadini could become the third player in Premier League history to score in each of his first four appearances in the competition alongside Mick Quinn and Diego Costa. "It was a odd game, a unusual first half - we conceded two goals without coming under pressure".

Christian Eriksen's 14th-minute opener was the fifth time in six matches that Spurs had gone ahead before the 20-minute mark and Alli's spot-kick, which he won himself, then gave the Lilywhites a 2-0 half-time lead for the second weekend in a row.

- The only previous top-flight season than Spurs have remained unbeaten at home was 1964-65 (21 games, 0 defeats).

The win against Southampton came without injured star Harry Kane, with Eriksen reflecting that the whole team worked to compensate for his absence.

- Tottenham's 10-game winning streak at White Hart Lane is their longest run since October 1987 (14 in a row).
