Dalai Lama Opens International Buddhist Conference

Mathura: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama would be visiting the city on Monday and will be staying at the Karshni Ashram Raman Reti here, an official said today.

"We urge the Indian side to clearly see the anti-China nature of the Dalai group and. respect China's core concerns and avoid China-India relations from being further disrupted and undermined", Hua told the media.

Union Minister of Culture Mahesh Sharma was present at the event.

Earlier this month, China had objected to India permitting the Dalai Lama to visit Arunachal Pradesh which it regards as Southern Tibet. Inaugurating three day worldwide conference on secularism here, he said India was a confluence various religions and cultures and it was the only country in the world, which was spreading the message of world peace and global brotherhood by strictly adhering to the principles of secularism.

"But in doing so, India is asking for trouble, worsening the bilateral relations and impeding normal bilateral discussion", he was quoted as saying by the daily.

The Nobel peace laureate is scheduled to attend the concluding function of The Assam Tribunes platinum jubilee and Dainik Asams golden jubilee celebration on April 1, before proceeding to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, China has announced that its People's Liberation Army Honor Guards will take part at the annual Pakistan Day parade in Islamabad on Thursday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Mukherjee met with the Dalai Lama in December, causing China to say it was "strongly dissatisfied".

China today warned India not to go against its "core concerns" to avoid disruption in bilateral ties after New Delhi invited the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama to an worldwide Buddhist seminar in Bihar. Xinhua said they have also performed parades in Mexico, Italy and Venezuela but did not explain what kind of parades they attended.
