Footage released by Fox Sports Monday shows an alleged suspect believed to have been the one who stole Tom Brady's Super Bowl LI jersey, entering and leaving the team locker room the night the jersey was stolen.
The NFL says it was in possession of a credentialed member of the global media. The league did not elaborate in its statement on specifically who had it.
"The items were found in the possession of a credentialed member of the global media".
Houston police chief Art Acevedo said yesterday an informant tipped off the department to the whereabouts of Brady's jersey.
The recovery also netted the jersey Brady wore in 2015 to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, which took place at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Early Monday morning, Glazer reported that the National Football League and the Federal Bureau of Investigation "believe they have located Tom Brady's stolen Super Bowl jersey" and are "in process of returning to Patriots". I know they worked hard on this case - and it is very much appreciated.
VIDEO: Brady discusses missing jersey after Super Bowl win Something similar happened to Brady's jersey after the Patriots' 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on February 1, 2015. The newspaper La Prensa said in a statement that Martin Mauricio Ortega Camberos resigned last week, citing personal reasons. He didn't name the suspect but said he didn't live in Houston. Houston police expect the USA attorney's office to pursue federal charges related to the transport of stolen goods outside the US, among other potential charges.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is also reporting authorities are investigating the suspect in the video for possibly stealing a helmet and cleats that were worn by Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller in Super Bowl L past year.
It wasn't the only piece of memorabilia recovered.
In a statement Monday, Brady said he was happy that the case had come to a resolution. "As a result of that investigation, we were able to work with the FBI and Mexican authorities to respond to the suspect's known location and look for the jersey".
New England have won five of the past 17 Super Bowls, with Brady under centre every time.
