The politics put forward by Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, will destroy the religious harmony of India, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Yogi Adityanath also met the Chief Secretary, the states top bureaucrat, at the VVIP guest house where he is now staying.
A spokesman for Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) however said the government did not make any distinction between citizens on the basis of religion.
"It was an introductory meeting with UP government officials".
While there have been many names on the speculation list, but Yogi Adityanath is one of them whom not many would have projected as the next Chief Minister of the state, especially when there were names like Rajnath Singh in the frame. "He will definitely prove all wrong", the minister said.
"We will hold a video conference with DMs and SPs to pass on the CM's message", a senior official told HT.
The officials were asked to bring BJP's "Sankalp Patra" to the meeting and the CM ordered all of them to read it carefully and implement the points properly.
"With Adityanath as the UP CM, BJP wants to vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony by imposing its ideology in the country", he said echoing his party supremo Sharad Pawar's fears.
The Punjab cabinet on Saturday also chose to provide 33 percent reservation for women in all government jobs, including contractual appointments of the state government as chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh attempted to strike a balance between populism and reforms.
60-year-old BSP leader Mohd Shami was last night gunned down by assailants close to his residence in Mauaima police station area, 40 km from Allahabad.

After Shah's comments, Maurya, the BJP's OBC face in UP, had told reporters that how could he choose himself, when asked if he is a contender for the post. "We will ensure that recruitment for government jobs is corruption-free and done in a transparent manner", he said.
Another important issue raised by Yogi Adityanath on the first day was action against slaughterhouses.
The tone and agenda of the new cabinet was set by the party's poll manifesto and the man who drafted it is new finance minister Manpreet Badal.
