JCPenney Store Closings 2017: See the Full List

- Last month, J.C. Penney announced it is joining its department store rivals in pruning its store numbers in an era of online shopping.

Also not on the list is the JCPenney location at Glenbrook Square Mall in Fort Wayne.

J.C. Penney first announced its intent to close up to 140 stores - about 14 percent of the company's locations - in February.

In addition to its store closures, Penney's is shutting down one supply chain facility in Lakeland, Fla., and relocating another in Buena Park, Calif. Approximately 5,000 jobs will be affected by the upcoming closings, which are expected to be completed by June, the company said.

Among the OH stores on the closing list are: the Findlay Village Mall location in Findlay, St. Mary's Square in St. Mary's; New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia and Richmond Town Square in Richmond Heights. Most affected stores will begin liquidating inventory on April 17.

"We believe the future winners in retail will be the companies that can create a frictionless interaction between stores and e-commerce, while leveraging physical locations to minimize the growing operational costs of delivery", Ellison said. The actual shutdown list released Friday included 138 stores. However, Iowa stores in Decorah, Fort Dodge, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa will be closed, as well as a store at the Fremont Mall in Fremont, Nebraska.

The JC Penney store in Red Wing will also close.

The Tyler location of JC Penney has been spared in the latest round of closures, though the stores in Athens, Marshall and Nacogdoches will be shut. This move will affect about 5,000 to 6,000 employees.

In January, Macy's said it was closing 68 stores, including one at CityPlace in West Palm Beach, as part of a 100-store purge announced in August 2016.
