Baton Rouge cop killed, suspected gunman wounded in shootout

The deputy was responding to a domestic situation when he was shot.

WAFB in Baton Rouge is reporting that the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said a deputy was shot and killed late Saturday night. "Right now Sheriff Gautreaux is with the family".

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the fallen officer and the entire East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

The Deputy was taken to a hospital across the street from the scene, but died a shot time later.

The shooting happened at a business in a strip mall near the movie theater on O'Neal Lane at I-12.

The identity of the deputy won't be released at this point, according to EBRSO spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks.

The deputy was taken from Ochsner Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday with a procession of law enforcement vehicles.

"This is a tragedy for our community", Mayor Sharon Weston Broome said. "We are focused on working with the family, praying for the family and making sure our deputies have the help and support they need". A suspect also sustained injuries, according to Lee, for which he is bring treated.

The shooting is under investigation.

The deputy was rushed to an area hospital and listed in critical condition after the shooting.
