According to the change-log provided by Niantic, the 80 new Pokemon have their origin in the Johto region in the previous Pokemon Gold and Silver games, but there are also Pokemon with gender-specific variations. The Pokemon GO update also added new items - including new berries and evolution items - and the big question on many players' lips is why isn't Niantic hosting a sale on Pokemon GO bag space as well?
Over 80 additional Pokemon originally discovered in the Johto region can be caught.
"Today is a momentous occasion for Pokemon GO as we welcome more Pokemon and build upon the encounter and capture mechanics for the passionate global community of Trainers playing the game", Niantic boss John Hanke said. In addition, trainers will be able to evolve their existing first-generation Pokemon, such as from Chansey to Blissey or Onix to Steelix, in the new update. It adds new evolution items which are necessary to evolve certain Pokemon which are available at PokeStops.
Finally, we can look forward to new wardrobe items and a new carousel that allows players to select berries and Pokeballs from the encounter screen, removing the need to open your bag while you're in the heat of battle.
With the fantastic number of new Pokemon that will be released, new encounters will be added for more variety. The more you explore, the more Pokemon you catch.
Also, players can finally change out of those clothes that they've been wearing for nearly an entire year. Speaking of items, two new berries will be making their way into the game - Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries.
A Niantic rep wouldn't say what "react in new ways" might mean. New berry types are being added too with Nanab berries slowing creatures down, while Pinap berries will double the candy you get from a catch. The word out is that the change to "Pokemon Go" will happen on the February 18 so AR gamers are advised to be on their heels. The latest update also brings new hats, shirts, and trousers to customize your avatar.
