JACKSONVILLE–Gene Smith continued the trend of following up bad losses by making drastic roster moves. Recently reacquired FS Gerald Alexander, who has started the last two games for the Jaguars, has been cut again.
The surprising move leaves Jacksonville without Anthony Smith (traded to Green Bay before the Titans game) and Alexander, who were widely considered to be the best players at the position in training camp and preseason (although Alexander’s poor preseason is the reason he was initially cut).
The Jaguars also plan to sign former 1st round pick Patrick Ramsey, a quarterback who has played for the Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints.
Alexander tweeted “All I can do is laugh at this point.” It’s not clear if he was referring to the move (not sure whether it was official at that point) or something else. Tanya Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union confirmed the move.
Update: According to Jack Del Rio, Todd Bouman is “on the way.” Trent Edwards has a sore thumb (throwing hand) and at minimum will miss Wednesday’s practice. Garrard appears to be out Sunday.
